Theatres Seals Deal to Acquire Nordic Cinema

AMC Theatres said pre-market Monday it sealed an agreement to acquire Nordic Cinema Group Holding AB, a theatre exhibitor based in Stockholm, Sweden, in an all-cash deal valued at SEK8.25 billion ($929 million).

The company is acquiring Nordic from European private equity firm Bridgepoint and Swedish media company Bonnier Holding.

The deal, which has already been approved by both AMC’s and Nordic’s board of directors, is slated for completion before June 30 and is conditional upon receiving antitrust clearance from the European Commission. Upon completion of the acquisition, the company said it will operate 1,000 theatres with 11,000 screens in 15 countries.
