Verizon claims 5G bragging rights; home broadband service launching in October

Verizon final month launched that this is probably going to be bringing its 5G network to Indianapolis by the waste of 2018, with the city joining Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Houston in the provider's roadmap.

Pricing for Verizon 5G home broadband will be $50 per month for Verizon Wireless customers with a smartphone plan, while non-Verizon Wierless customers will pay $70 per month. As VentureBeat reports, the confirmation and availability detail puts an end to two of the biggest mysteries around Verizon's fixed 5G broadband service.

"First On 5G" customers will get free professional installation and a free router along with the first crack at scoring 5G-capable Verizon smartphones as they become available.

According to Verizon, all early consumers in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Sacramento who will sign up to be "First On 5G" Members will get the Verizon 5G Home Broadband Internet service free for the first three months.

With access to Verizon 5G Home, customers can expect to see download speeds around 300mbps with the network & sometimes peaking close to 1 Gbps. Verizon is targeting cable customers to use 5G Home and announced several content packages.

Verizon is opening four new labs in the United States to accelerate the development of 5G use cases and experiences. Verizon did not reveal the timeframe to launch 5G mobile service. Verizon and others have been laying the foundation of 5G networks for some time. That achievement, getting that type of speed without a fiber or coaxial cable is a huge breakthrough, but one should realize this is just the start to 5G and much more is yet to come. Verizon is also offering three months of YouTube TV to subscribers. There are no data caps with Verizon 5G Home.

So that's a first for 5G home internet, but carriers are still racing to be the first to introduce mobile 5G service.
