Loeb's intentions to make a more pro-life leaning film of the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 decision to grant a woman the right to an abortion has complicated production after several members of the Roe v. Wade cast and crew backed out of the project, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter.
"There have been a lot of times where there's been a lot of panic about Roe v. Wade being overturned, and there's been a lot of hyperventilating about that, but this time really feels like it's not a drill, this time feels serious", said Janet Harris, 51, who sent a package of 10 wire hangers from her home in OR to Collins' office. Collins would agree that those were very good reversals. "The Senate must only confirm a justice who firmly declares that the constitution protects individual liberty and the right of all people to make personal decisions about their bodies and relationships, including the right to have contraception, the right to an abortion, and to marry the person who you choose".
I think abortion opponents will have that trust vindicated; I think a Roberts-Kavanaugh court, however restrained in other ways, will overrule Casey and allow the states to legislate freely on abortion once again.
Just as the Supreme Court overturned the Dred Scott and Plessy decisions, the high court should overturn Roe v. Wade.
"Mark my words, they are moving to roll back Roe v. Wade, that is going to be the next move by this president", Cuomo said. In the end, the fight over Supreme Court nominees has not given either side what they really wanted - but after thirty years, neither side is ready to give up the battle.
As of now, four states - Louisiana, Mississippi and North and South Dakota - have what are known as abortion "trigger laws".
"I had an abortion at 19, after rape, and I wouldn't want my daughter, God forbid anything like that happened to her, I wouldn't want her at 19 to be in a position where she didn't have access to safe and legal abortions", said Long.
Cuomo also backs a measure, known as the Reproductive Health Act, or RHA, which would codify the rights in the Roe v. Wade case into NY law.
Most Republicans want to put the Supreme Court out of reach of the left for a generation or more.
All this means the outcome of a confirmation vote is uncertain.
The film promises to offer a far different spin on the Supreme Court ruling than the one that has served as "official history" for the past 45 years. Republican state lawmakers across the country have been attacking Roe around the edges for years with increasingly restrictive rules, from gestational limits to tougher licensing for clinics.
Democrats did not immediately begin to react against Republican judicial nominees, however. Leo singled out Barrett and Kavanaugh as having "a lot of name recognition among supporters of the president, and I think that ultimately when people like them are nominated you'll see a lot of folks line up".
