The daily says the 57-year-old actor had been headed to a film set on Tuesday when his motorbike was hit by a vehicle.
The 57-year-old actor was traveling along a road in Costa Corallina, in the province of Olbia-Tempio in Sardinia, when the incident occurred, reported TGCOM24.
In pictures from the crash, obtained by the MailOnline, the auto involved in the crash appears to have a smashed windscreen, suggesting George may even have hit it during the crash.
According to the Italian newspaper La Nuova Sardegna, the actor was travelling towards the set of his new television series Catch 22 when his scooter encountered a suddenly turning auto. La Nuova also reports that George's wife, Amal Clooney, rushed to be by his side when she heard news of his hospitalization.
"Catch 22" is an adaptation of Joseph Heller's classic novel and George is directing and starring in the series.
Even earlier in June, Clooney was seen zipping around the island on a scooter with Amal, 40, hugging him tightly.
Clooney has a home on the Italian mainland, on Lake Como.
