Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has played a significant role in reviving the traditional yoga not only within the country but also across the world.

Agastya Muni, one of the Satyas, has worked in India to make yoga a part of life. While Narendra Modi performed yoga in Dehradun, leaders and politicians across the country hosted similar events.

Mary Silva, a Philippines national account assistant, said: "I started doing yoga in 2016, and I practise every once in a while".

Modi's speech set the mood for a 45-minute yoga session, awaited in much expectancy by the participants who had all been given yoga mats and informed to retain them as souvenirs of the day and hopefully to use on a regular basis.

He noted that several modern medical institutes in the U.S. and in Europe have adopted yoga as an alternative treatment for many disorders.

Nepali people celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga with enthusiasm on Thursday.

As India struggles with the non-communicable diseases like diabetes and heart attacks which are on increase, Modi took the opportunity to highlight the health benefits of performing yoga. "I hope that Yoga can become binding force for the world", he said. Instead of further animosity, yoga assimilates.

Downward-facing dogs, cobras and warriors sprouted all over Asia yesterday, including high in the Himalayas, up in the air and under the sea, for International Yoga Day.

The growing popularity of yoga across the globe had brought India closer to the world and this position is going to get strengthened in times to come, he said.

Other cities however held their yoga day earlier than June 21 - the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere - including in Paris, Seoul and in Durban, South Africa last weekend. Breath is the most lovely gift and yoga makes people realize that.
