Melania Trump makes appearance after 24 days out of sight

Where's Melania? First Lady has not been seen in public for 24 days

First lady Melania Trump, who had not been seen publicly for the past 24 days, attended an official White House event with President Donald Trump Monday afternoon.

"Well I'm not surprised", Colbert joked about the absence, "it took that Shawshank guy years to tunnel out". Four days later, the White House announced that she had been hospitalized to treat a benign kidney condition.

"She is going to do this job her way", McBride said of Mrs. Trump.

"Suppose President Trump punched the First Lady in the White House (federal property = federal jurisdiction), then ordered the Secret Service to hide the assault".

The event, a private East Room reception for more than 40 Gold Star military families, was not in and of itself an unusual activity for the first lady of the United States.

Three unnamed current and former White House officials told CNN that another Hagin catchphrase is "this would never happen in the Bush administration", often served up with an eye roll for emphasis.

"To all those who have lost loved ones in service to our country, our nation grieves with you", her statement read. "We're used to our first ladies being out and about". She and son Barron officially moved to the White House last June.

A short video showing the Trump's walking into the ceremony circulated online.

The liberal network's "Reliable Sources" newsletter led with a giant graphic of a calendar, placing question marks on each date since Mrs. Trump was "last seen" on May 10.

On Wednesday, Melania confronted the media speculating about her whereabouts tweeting, "I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing".
