Jets leadership group carried team to series win against Predators

Winnipeg Jets vs. Vegas Golden Knights - 5/12/18 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Winnipeg Jets Advance, Scheifele Sets NHL Record

A quality person, we knew that from our due diligence in the past. When you're in the box for a good portion of the night it's not going to go good. The Lightning will win this series over the Capitals but it will take them seven games to do it.

The young Winnipeg Jets have grown up fast this postseason, so quickly that now they are headed to the first Western Conference final in their short history after knocking off the NHL's best team in the regular season.

It's nearly awesome that the Jets have come this far with their three top goal scorers combining for just five goals in 12 games, but when you have players like Scheifele, Stastny and Wheeler stepping up they way they did, the pressure is off the youngsters.

"We're going to offer you the best, toughest hockey market that you're ever going to see", Matt Schaubroeck with Tourism Winnipeg said.

"Play with some confidence and some courage".

The Winnipeg Jets will host the expansion Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday in game one of a Western Conference final that nobody would have predicted at the start of the season.

Nearly everybody on the team just magically became stars, the prime example being William Karlsson, going from a six-goal season with the Blue Jackets to a 43-goal season with the Golden Knights. Vegas started winning and it just never stopped. Their first home games will be a double header on Sunday, June 3 at 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. when the Souris Cardinals and the Wawanesa Brewers come to town.

After going head to head with the Predators top trio of Ryan Johansen, Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson, the Jets' first line of Mark Scheifele, Wheeler and Kyle Connor are likely to see a lot of Golden Knights forwards William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith during the next two weeks. Both teams are entering uncharted territory and both have advanced further into the playoffs than anyone would have expected.

4 - At the end of the second round, the four leading scorers in the playoffs have all been eliminated: Pittsburgh's Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby with 21 points, and Boston's David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand with 20 and 17 points. The team supposedly gave him a verbal warning not to do it again but it obviously fell on deaf ears because in the next round against Tampa Bay, he gave Ryan Callahan a real "chin to nose" lick, an extra-long tongue slurp and once again the stunned refs called nothing. They play the same way regardless of whether they're ahead or behind. All three of those guys can put the puck in the net.

As impressive as all of those results are, just as important is the manner in which they've gone about accomplishing them. "Try to limit them as much as we can".

5 - Head coach Gerard Gallant, who was sacked by the Florida Panthers in 2016, is viewed as a near-lock for the Jack Adams Award thanks to using an up-tempo system that has Vegas ranked in the top half of the league in goals (3.27), power play proficiency (21.4%), goals-against, (2.74), and penalty kill proficiency (81.4%).

But Maurice certainly has a great deal of respect for the job Gallant has done. That is a huge edge for a team at this time of the year and I will look for the Golden Knights to take full advantage.

That makes it imperative for Vegas to perform well early in games.

The Jets are a better all around team, but as Vegas has shown us time and time again.who cares? Very similar in terms of ours.

"I think he maybe had something a little bit more to prove this year after the last couple years".

"Game 7 is a different animal", he said. The Bolts also play with tremendous speed and can transition the puck like no other team in the National Hockey League. "And they've been extremely successful".

Myers initiated the scoring at 8:41 of the first period with a wrister from the far right goal line that somehow squeezed between the post and goalie Pekka Rinne, his third of the playoffs.

"Specifically outstanding transition and speed".

Only three more predictions to make this spring, and today we'll make two of them. There will be contact for sure in the zones, but that won't be the story.
