Albert Pujols Pursuit of 3000 Hits is Something To Watch

Albert Pujols Pursuit of 3000 Hits is Something To Watch

Pujols joined the 600-homer club previous year (an achievement I thought didn't get enough talk), and on Friday night, he joined the 3,000-hit club with a single into right field in Seattle.

Blue Jays right-hander Joe Biagini (0-1) was tagged for 10 hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings. Between his rookie season, in which he won Rookie of the Year, and the end of his 2010 season, Pujols finished each season batting no less than.314 with slugging percentages under.600 in only three of those seasons.

Looking to become the 32nd member of the 3,000-hit club, Pujols will need two on Thursday if he hopes to do it at Angel Stadium before the club heads to Seattle to begin a five-game road trip. Asdrubal Cabrera and Todd Frazier each smacked two-run homers and drove in three for the Mets, who are 0-4 on their homestand and 6-12 since an 11-1 start. Cabrera had just returned from missing three games with biceps spasms when he injured the hamstring while running in the sixth inning.

Trout, Pujols and Upton homered in the same game for the first time since uniting with the Angels late last season. Carew recently recalled a slump that occurred earlier in the 1985 season, when he was still a few dozen hits short of 3,000.

Fans cheers the two-run home run by Seattle Mariners' Mike Zunino against the Los Angeles Angels during the eighth inning of a baseball game Saturday, May 5, 2018, in Seattle.

In 2011, the St.Louis Cardinals once again found themselves in a position to win the world series, this time against the Texas Rangers. After his age-30 season in 2010, Pujols had already delivered 1,900 hits, which was good for the 13th-highest total in baseball history reached by that age.

Albert Pujols at one time was an unknown draft pick taken in the 13 round while playing at Maple Woods Community College. "Then three days later, on Opening Day, I got my first hit". Pujols got just enough of Mike Leake's pitch to find the outfield grass and add another accolade to a likely Hall of Fame career.

He is also only the second Dominican born Major League Baseball player to reach 3,000 hits, the first being Beltre. Calhoun has five hits in his last 58 at-bats, with 20 strikeouts.

On Friday, though, Pujols stood alone, on first base and atop a career at its loftiest height yet.

Matt Shoemaker (forearm stiffness) came through Friday's bullpen session without issue, and he will throw another one on Sunday.

Angels: Garrett Richards (3-1, 3.58 ERA) looks to rebound from a miserable start last weekend against the Yankees when the Angels open a series at Seattle.

Shortstop Dansby Swanson was placed on the Braves' 10-day disabled list with left wrist inflammation.
