"Niko was a player at Bayern, he is very familiar with the people involved as well as the structure and the DNA of the club", said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Former Bayern Munich player, Niko Kovac, has been named as Juup Heynckes's replacement in head coach position of the German champions from next season.

Kovac took over at Eintracht Frankfurt in March 2016 with the Hessians fighting to avoid the drop, which they managed only after winning the relegation playoff against FC Nuremberg. Born in Berlin, Kovac played for Bayern as a midfielder between 2001 and 2003, when he was a team-mate of Salihamidzic.

Kovac has also previously coached Red Bull Salzburg's second side, before taking on the role as assistant of the first team under Ricardo Moniz. "We are going into many important games".

"It's disrespectful. We will not talk about it with Bayern now, but we will look for dialogue again in the near future".

Kovac has overseen the most worldwide dressing room in the Bundesliga, with 18 different nationalities represented at the club.

"It must be a day to celebrate for media and fans with so many highlights", said the 72-year-old coach of the 2018 German champion.

That was the season in which the German club won the treble under Heynckes and the head coach hopes the fact they have the first leg at home, just as they did in 2013, is a positive sign.

Bobic added: "They did their thing and thought of themselves. That information made it to the outside - definitely not out of Frankfurt - is very annoying, unprofessional and lacking in respect".

He turned out to be a bargain buy, purchased by Liverpool for £38 million ($54 million) a month before Brazil's Neymar went for 222 million euros ($273 million) to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona.

Wagner, the back-up at Bayern for star striker Robert Lewandowski who was on the bench, has scored seven goals in his last eight games.

That may set up a cagey final with Roma who won't be run over but Madrid's experience and sheer confidence should see them secure their third Champions League trophy on the bounce (what?!).

Can you imagine a better scenario for Ronaldo than for Madrid to go through the Champions League knocking out the champions in three different leagues on the way to the title, with Ronaldo doing unbelievable things all along the way?
