Paramount Pictures CEO Jim Gianopulos announced concurrent development of two new Star Trek movies at CinemaCon, partially clearing up months of rumor and conflicting information about the fate of the Star Trek movie series.
In a recent interview with ET Canada, Spock depicter Zachary Quinto shared that the studio is developing at least more than one "Star Trek" movie. It also gives us plenty of things to speculate about.
Expectations will, as always, be high.
It's important to note that at this point Paramount has not officially given any official green light to any Star Trek film, however the mention of Skydance's involvement is a key important step. The answer to that really is unknown.
Clarkson is a British director who has done a shitload of television shows including Vinyl, Jessica Jones and The Defenders. That script is being written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Overlord). Because there was a script being written before Quentin Tarantino came up with his idea for a potential film. Fingers crossed, but I just can't strongly believe it's going to happen.
The other option, which is the most intriguing one to me, is have one of the movies back in the "Prime" timeline - dust William Shatner off, and tell a story that way. Quentin is off doing another movie.
"I'm incredibly confident that we have the right team, culture, and attitude in place to take Paramount to new heights", he said.
We knew a bunch of treatments were bouncing around, including Quentin Tarantino's, but the idea that they'd be branching out the series into multiple films at once wasn't even an idea. So I don't know.
