Insomniac Games' Spider-Man Release Date Revealed; More Details Announced

Marvel's Spider Man Won't Have Microtransactions

Spider-Man confirmed for a 2018 release on PS4

Spider-Man will be launching on PlayStation 4 on September 7.

Sony just announced the all-important release date, along with the game's box-art, and two deluxe editions. Although exact details on this DLC have not been provided, Insomniac does confirm that there will be three new chapters in total, with each of them adding new missions, new characters, new villains and new outfits for Spider-Man. The Digital Deluxe version runs for $79.99 United States dollars and will include a copy of the game, three pre-order bonus suits, a "Spider-Drone Gadget", five extra in-game skill points, and a related PSN Avatar and PS4 Theme. Sony and Marvel recently reached a deal that allowed Spider-Man to enter the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe starting with Captain America: Civil War, and then his own feature film with Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the character will continue to be a part of that larger franchise.

More details about the game will be revealed in the upcoming May issue of Game Informer magazine. Wood also exhibited that the superhero is donning a new costume specifically designed by Insomniac Games. Spider-Man will be releasing exclusively on PlayStation 4. Are you excited for Spider-Man on the PS4? Astute fans of the wall-crawler will see nods to the work of J. Scott Campbell, Mark Bagley, John Romita Sr., John Romita Jr., Joe Quesada and (of course) Steve Ditko, as well as many other iconic Spider-Man artists.

Titled Marvel's Spider-Man, you'll get to play as a 23-year-old Peter Parker, who is interning at a lab and about to graduate from college. Insomniac claimed on PlayStation Blog that what he's perched on is "too spoilery" to show now, but they will reveal it at a later time. When Marvel Games went to Sony Interactive Entertainment to develop a new Spider-Man based game, we weren't so sure which developer would make the cut to make the game. We don't know when these items will be revealed, but it should be soon.

But fans of the Marvel films needn't fret: it's much of the same in terms of the game's plot.

The game has been one of the most anticipated titles of this year, and comes straight from the people who brought us Ratchet and Clank.
