QB Kirk Cousins says farewell to Washington Redskins

NFL INSIDER: Kirk Cousins Will Reportedly Sign With Vikings For $27M Per Season

The NFL's quarterback market is in need of a major correction when you've got guys like David Carr, Matthew Stafford, Andrew Luck and now maybe Kirk Cousins at the top of the pay scale.

The Jets have approximately $90 million in salary cap space while the Vikings could sign Cousins to replace Case Keenum. Cousins is expected to get about $28 million a year, which would re-set the league's record contract.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings are "likely" to sign Cousins, who must wait until free agency starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday to officially sign with a team. The 2012 fourth round pick finished previous year 347-540 for 4,093 yards and 27 touchdowns to 13 interceptions.

Bridgewater suffered a serious knee injury in training camp before the 2016 season.

Meanwhile, McCown is 38 and coming off a broken hand that ended his year with the New York Jets after Week 14.

Sure, the Broncos could still select a quarterback after getting Keenum and choose from the four (perhaps five with Lamar Jackson) who could go early: Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen.

As I'm about to make one of the bigger decisions of my life, I'll be saying goodbye to my familiar life as a Redskin.

The Vikings are banking on this being his last trip, too.

Since taking over as the Washington Redskins starting quarterback in 2015, Cousins has put up very good numbers.

Vikings quarterback Case Keenum, the Abilene Wylie graduate, will undergo an extremely important free agency period this upcoming week, where Minnesota will act as the puppeteers for his future. The Vikings' Super Bowl window isn't going to stay open for more than a handful of years, no matter who is lining up behind center.

Cousins will visit with the Vikings first, according to NFL Network, meaning it's possible the 29-year-old quarterback could join Minnesota without hearing the Jets' full pitch. But at the same time, everyone is becoming overheated about him is something of a distraction because the team has so many needs to fill if it is to become a serious playoff contender.

"I haven't had the chance to pick where I'm going to play since 2007 when I chose to go to Michigan State, so I'm looking forward to that opportunity", Cousins said in Minnesota the week of the Super Bowl during an appearance on SiriusXM satellite radio. Some in the organization believe they should have tried to trade Cousins last offseason rather than tag him a second time, which led to another year of questions about his desire to be here long-term.
