The Seminoles earned the No. 9 seed in the Midwest region and will face No. 8 seed Missouri at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. If this policy is followed, Barnett would miss at least one NCAA Tournament game.
The victor will face the victor of Xavier vs. North Carolina Central University/Texas Southern victor on Sunday also in Nashville. The Seminoles participated in the NCAA in a school-record four consecutive seasons from 2009-12 and will now participate in consecutive NCAA Tournaments after playing in the field in 2017. They made the tourney past year, beating Florida Gulf Coast in the first round before falling to Xavier in the second round. The Seminoles have made the Sweet 16 four times - 1972, 1992, 1993 and 2011.
This will be the Seminoles 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton has been with the Seminoles for 16 years (since 2002).
FSU recorded important home wins against highly rated teams such as North Carolina, Clemson and Miami, and the 'Noles also recorded significant road wins at Florida and Louisville. Since the Seminoles were ranked No. 23 in the AP Top 25 on January 8, they have gone 8-8.
Barnett has started every game for the Tigers this season, averaging 13.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Sophomore Trent Forrest leads the Seminoles in both assists (3.9 apg) and steals (1.4 spg) while freshman Ike Obiagu leads the Seminoles in blocked shots (2.2 bpg).
