Hearthstone's next expansion sees players enter The Witchwood

Something spooky is stirring at the heart of The Witchwood™ the next expansion for Hearthstone® Blizzard Entertainment’s smash-hit digital card game

Hearthstone: The Witchwood expansion will have a Dungeon Run-style 'Monster Hunt' mode

Witchwood card packs will be winnable in Hearthstone's Arena mode, and players can purchase them with in-game gold or real money at the same prices as Hearthstone's other card packs.

Notable additions to the set include cards which sort of behave like flip cards do in Magic, Worgen cards can shift their attack and health each time they're in your hand.

Players will be able to draw on an arsenal of new tricks, including the eerie new Echo keyword and cards with Echo can be used repeatedly thus allowing a minion or spell casting to be performed as many times as their mana will allow.

Curious players can keep up with the now announced cards here. Aside from winning new cards, players will be able to round out their collections by purchasing new card packs or disenchanting some of their existing cards to craft the ones they're missing.

An announcement video, which features a musical number and a preview of Witchwood cards from the development team, can be viewed below.

Late last month we posted about the upcoming Hearthstone expansion and what it means for the game: The arrival of the Year of the Raven! Rush will be familiar to players, as it functions much like Charge, however Rush cards can only attack minions on the turn that they're played.

Then there's that new Monster Hunt mode. Similar to the Dungeon Run mode from Kobolds & Catacombs, players will defeat bosses and collect their bounties to build a deck that will keep them alive as they venture deeper and deeper into The Witchwood.

A new free Monster Hunt single player mode, simiar to Kobolds & Catacombs' Dungeon Run, which will challenge players to eight continuous hard battles, leading into a big boss fight. However, if your deck only contains odd-Cost cards, it will upgrade your Hero Power. To follow this theme, at least one of the new cards will change in your hand every turn. The expansion packs are now available for pre-order where those who pre-order will be given an additional 20 packs as a bonus along with a "In a Dark Wood" card back.

For more details check out the official web site, oh, and of course, there's a $49.99 pre-purchase bundle which is really the best overall value when it comes to buying any Hearthstone cards.
