Watch the first trailer for Sony's 'Venom,' starring Tom Hardy

'Venom' Teaser: Tom Hardy Shouts Down His Demons As Marvel's Lethal Protector

'Venom': Tom Hardy Faces His Demons In Intense First Trailer — But Is He A Hero Or A Villain?

Tom Hardy plays the titular nemesis to Spider-Man. How they do a movie on Venom, a character whose origin is so intertwined with Spider-Man, is hard to imagine.

Yesterday the official Twitter account for the Venom movie tweeted a photo of the new poster for Venom along with the words "Tomorrow #Venom" and today they finally delivered the teaser trailer for the Tom Hardy lead Venom movie!

The teaser trailer also introduces Williams' Anne Weying, who seems to be an ex-girlfriend of Brock's, as well as Ahmed's Dr. Carlton Drake.

The result? A somewhat disappointing and generic showcase for what is undoubtedly one of the most-anticipated comic book movies of the year.

Venom will tell the story of how reporter Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) looks into the mysterious happenings of The Life Foundation, a survivalist organization for the wealthy elite. "Everyone's got their thing". Maybe it's a breakup, a death, an accident. Whatever it is, you used to be one thing. Unfortunately we only see that creature in a holding tank, as the full Venom suit is nowhere to be found in the teaser. "We all have our own problems, our own issues, our own... demons".

Venom is now scheduled to be released in theaters on October 5, 2018. Venom was first portrayed in film by Topher Grace in 2007's Spider-Man 3.

Ruben Fleischer is directing the film, based on a script by Scott Rosenberg ("Jumanji") and Jeff Pinkner ("The Dark Tower"). It was previously reported the first Venom trailer would arrive in time to be attached to Marvel Studios' Black Panther when the MCU installment hits theaters in mid-February.
