Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be given the evening off when Los Blancos take on Leganes in their rescheduled La Liga clash tonight.

Real Madrid, who were without Cristiano Ronaldo, Keylor Navas, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, were then the better of the two sides without creating many clear cut opportunities.

Zinedine Zidane's side were due to play this fixture earlier in the season but it was postponed due to their participation in the Club World Cup.

The Champions League holders have been knocked out of the Copa del Rey and sit 17 points behind leaders Barcelona in La Liga and their hopes of success this season lay exclusively with the Champions League.

After kocking out Los Blancos, the capital club saw their Copa del Rey run end at the hands of Sevilla in the semi-finals and have since lost their last two games in the Primera Division: 1-0 at home to Eibar and 3-0 at Girona.

He was forced off, however, during the 5-3 win at Real Betis in La Liga on Sunday with the hamstring problem.

Asked about the winger's display afterwards, Zidane simply said: "Well, Gareth played his game".

"He has sustained a hamstring problem which is why he didn't train and he is focusing on recovering as quickly as possible", he said.

Kroos is nursing a knee injury sustained after the first leg against PSG but is expected to return in time for the return.

David De Gea or Thibaut Courtois are the keepers short-listed by Ronaldo and 22-yearold Real Sociedad defender Alvaro Odriozola is also in demand to give competition to Dani Carvajal.

With their victory, Madrid moved into third place with seven points separating them from close city rivals Atletico Madrid in second place.
