"Sea of Thieves" is developer Rare's first foray into the PC market, and it wanted to make sure it nailed down that demographic just right. Lead designer Mike Chapman tells IGN that the game takes place prior to the Golden Age of Piracy in a mysterious location called the Sea of Thieves.
Speaking to US Gamer, Rare has said it will introduce in-game purchases to Sea of Thieves months after launch, but they will focus primarily on the 'social side of things'.
The assertion doesn't carry over into microtransactions, sadly. They have never created a video game for the PC in their decades-long history, and now find themselves in a position where they need to prepare the game for both Xbox One (X) and Windows 10 at the same time. These pets work like other items in the game: they're physical objects that can be held not just by the owner, but by other players. 100 per cent, if you want to progress in Sea of Thieves, you play the game. When we deliver this first major update, that's when we'll turn on the ability for players to spend money optionally. "I think that's the way we'll do it", he said.
In a visit to Rare last week, Daily Star Online had the opportunity to see Rare in action ahead of the launch of the game. It's just the right spirit for what Sea of Thieves is. "So anything in this area will not impact power or progression, and you'll always know what you're getting - so that means no loot crates".

The voyages obtained here were described to me as being an approximation to Sea of Thieves' "raid" content, granting the most exclusive outfits and rewards for completing the most hard missions.
Sea of Thieves won't have dozens of sliders and dials, allowing you to finely tune the shape of your nose or cheekbones. As such, he's proud of his team and says he'd "love to one day read a forum post that says "Rare made a PC game like all people should make PC games'". That goes for our digital business.
"There will be a chance of acquiring them other ways, but we're not going to go, "you can earn everything by playing", the way some people claim, even though you have to play for 60,000 hours or something", Neate says.
