The trailer shows Sora, Donald, and Goofy sporting a fuzzy, monster-like new look as they come upon some familiar faces: Sully, Boo, and Mike Wazowski.
Perhaps most importantly the trailer carries an important tagline at its conclusion - Coming 2018. Kingdom Hearts III will release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2018.
Previously, producer Shinji Hashimoto said that Kingdom Hearts III will also include a level inspired by Big Hero 6's San Fransokyo.
The trailer also features the return of previous characters in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. One detailing a new world alongside gameplay of previously announced ones, and another that presented the game's theme song.
While the earlier Kingdom Hearts games seemed to concentrate more on the "classic" Disney elements, Kingdom Hearts 2 saw the game embrace some of the more modern classics. The development process is now split into three different parts: early, middle, and late.
The early worlds are about 90% complete, with the middle worlds being at about 60%.
The official theme song of the game has been showcased as well, called "Don't Think Twice" and once again composed by Utada Hikaru.
Lastly, each of the three sections will have around three worlds. According to Nomura, "It is bound to surprise everyone".
