Macron met Friday in the capital, Dakar, with President Macky Sall and is inaugurating a school before attending a meeting of the Global Partnership for Education.

Rihanna, a global ambassador for the organization, was joined by French President Emmanuel Macron.

"This is one of the, if not the, largest gatherings of its kind to really demonstrate political will, financial investment, the urgency of the education crisis", Alice Albright, CEO of the Global Partnership for Education told AFP.

It was on the invitation of his colleague Presidents Macky Sall and Emmanuel Macron of Senegal and France respectively, for an worldwide conference on the theme, 'Replenishment of the Funds of the Global Partnership for Education'.

"I am energized by the generosity and determination we have seen here today to ensure every child and young person has access to a quality education", said former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who chairs the GPE board.

President Macron also tweeted to reaffirm his commitment to Rihanna's cause, saying, "When I commit, I deliver".

The objective of the conference is to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for education in the poorest of nations. Macron praised Senegal for spending 7 percent of its GDP on education.

With the pledge, the UAE became the first Arab nation to support the GPE, a World Bank initiative that brings together donor countries, multilateral agencies, civil society, the private sector and foundations to support the education sector in developing countries.

The pair's attendance at the conference follows Rihanna's visit to Paris in July, when Macron hosted the singer at his presidential palace and the pair discussed their plans to raised the bar on education in developing nations. "France will always side with those fighting for a better education".
